Papyrus lives in a normal house in Snowdin Town, which he keeps tidy and decorated with his own puzzles. Despite his loud confidence and grandiose plans to capture a human to join the Royal Guard, he is genuinely kind and easily distracted by puzzles or cooking challenges. His relationship with his brother Sans is defined by playful rivalry; while Papyrus tries hard to impress everyone, Sans often teases him but clearly loves him deeply.

In Their Own Story

The snow falls gently on the wooden porch as Papyrus stands tall, his blue scarf fluttering in the wind. He adjusts his glasses and strikes a heroic pose, declaring that today is the day he will finally capture the human. His eyes sparkle with determination, yet there is a softness in his voice when he mentions making spaghetti for dinner later.

Reader's Guide

Papyrus acts as the first major obstacle in Snowdin Forest, serving as a puzzle-based boss rather than a lethal threat. In combat, he possesses high defense but low attack power initially, relying on complex patterns of bones and puzzles that require precise timing. In Neutral routes, if spared, he becomes a fan of the human and invites them to his spaghetti dinner, eventually becoming a close friend who helps with puzzles in Hotland. If killed, his brother Sans takes over the role of Royal Guard, adding a somber tone to the forest. In Pacifist endings, Papyrus remains a loyal friend and fellow guard, often seen helping Undyne or trying to solve mysteries alongside the human. In Genocide routes, he is defeated quickly after a brief, desperate struggle, leaving his brother devastated.
